Image rights

The photographs, scans, and measurements of the objects Vault records were made by Vault for the named seller, and may not be reproduced, redistributed, or used to create derivative works without written permission. Other images in a record’s story are credited to their sources. Rights in the underlying artworks remain with their respective owners.

Privacy

Vault sets no cookies. To understand which works draw interest, these pages include Vercel Web Analytics, which counts page views, referrers, countries, and browser and device types in aggregate. It does not use cookies, does not build a profile of you, and does not track you across other sites; Vercel processes this data on Vault’s behalf. There is no advertising pixel. Pages and images are served by Vercel and Cloudflare, which receive your IP address with each request, as any web host does.

If you send an inquiry, Vault collects what you enter: your name, email address, phone number if you give one, and your message. Vault emails them to the seller of that work through its email provider, Resend, so the seller can reply to you directly. Resend keeps a copy of each email it sends, as email services do; Vault itself stores no copy and adds you to no mailing list. To limit spam, Vault counts recent inquiries by a one-way hash of your IP address and the work you asked about; the count expires after an hour.

Records

Vault records what it observes and does not authenticate. “Vault Verified” means only that the object was physically imaged and catalogued through Vault’s process. It is not authentication, not an attribution, and not a guarantee of authorship, date, condition, value, or any other statement in a record. Records are not guaranteed to be accurate or complete, and imaging can introduce artifacts of the capture process that may appear as features of an object. The Images tab of each record marks its images: measured is a capture Vault made of the object; simulated is computed from those measurements, such as surface relief and relighting, or shows them in a rendered frame and room; generated is an AI-produced visualization, not a photograph of the object. Condition is reported as observed at the time of imaging. Provenance is compiled from documents and owner accounts and is often incomplete. A paper match is dating evidence, never authentication.
